The event’s faculty includes some of Western Canada’s leading oncologists.

Event Co-Chairs

Dr. Sharlene Gill
MD, MPH, MBA, FACP, FRCPC, FASCO
Dr. Gill is a Professor of Medicine at the University of British Columbia and a medical oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies at BC Cancer – Vancouver. She received a Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy and an MD from the University of British Columbia in 1996 followed by residencies in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Dr. Gill subsequently completed a fellowship in Gl Oncology at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) and a Master’s of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. In 2017, she completed an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina. She is actively engaged in education and research, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters to her credit. Dr. Gill currently serves as the Chair of the Canadian Clinical Trials Group (CCTG) GI Disease Site Committee, and is President-Elect for the Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists.

Dr. Anil Abraham Joy
MD, FRCPC
Dr. Anil Abraham Joy is a Professor in the Department of Oncology, Division of Medical Oncology in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta and has been a staff medical oncologist at the Cross Cancer Institute since 2003.
His primary clinical and translational research areas of interest include breast and thoracic malignancies, lifestyle interventional research, regional/global disparity issues and wellness promotion. He has over 125 peer reviewed publications to date in these areas.
His past administrative appointments include being Chair for the Northern Alberta Breast Cancer Program, Provincial Chair for the Alberta Breast Cancer Program and he has also served on CADTH as a member of pCODR – on the Expert Review Committee.
He is the current Research Lead for the Breast Cancer Program at the Cross Cancer Institute and serves as the Thoracic Oncology Coordinator for the University of Alberta, Medical Oncology Residency Training Program.
